You can apply different themes to different slides when you are selecting at
least 2 slides in Thumbnail view. If you have 1 slide selected and apply
theme, all slides in the presentation will be changed. If you want to apply
only 1 slide, then just create an empty slide. Hitting Return key in
thumbnail view does add an empty slide. Select both of the slide you want
to apply different theme and the empty one, then apply your theme. You can
select multiple slides by command + click.

I am sure it can be done but I am not sure how to exactly apply different
themes to slides in the same presentation. Could anyone help me out?
