Applying multiple resources to tasks in Project Server

Doug P.

I am in an Project Server environment (2003), with multiple resources
available to me that also work on other projects. I have read that in this
scenario, it is best to set Max Units to the percent ea. is available to work
on my project. However, this option is grayed out.

This being said, how can I allow for persons working on multiple projects?
Should I just set ea. person's assignment-related Units to less than 100%?
Also, if applying multiple resources to a task, as I must do to allow ea. to
put time against the tasks/s, in PWA, how can I know who will do what
percentage of the work? I can set the work evenly accross them, but after
updates in PWA, they will change.

Doug,

Enterprise Resources have a Max Units setting that cannot be adjusted
without write access to the Enterprise Resourc Pool. However, once you
use Build Team From Enterprise to move people from the Enterprise
Resource Pool to the project team, you can adjust the Max Units there
(on the Resource Sheet view) and make your assignments. The changes
made to Max Units in the Resource Sheet will revert, but the
assignments you make will persist.

Another way to do it is to use the Assign Resources tool and manually
control the resource assignments for each resource on each task.

You will want to look at the resource's availability to see how much
time they have available. You can view that from a variety of places,
including the Assign Resources tool.

Hope this helps,

Thank you Mark. It seems easier to adjust the Max Units field in the
Resource Sheet View for ea. rather than having to mess around with Units in
ea. resource assignment.

I did know that the Max Units value would return after saving and re-opening
as I get an information box about it, however, are you saying that if I set
all resources to say 25%, save the project, exit and re-open, it will show
100% but really be 25%?
