applying multiple slide masters in a presentation

Hello:

I am using two basic slide layouts in my presentation: one with one large
text box, and one with two side-by-side half-size text boxes. I would like
to apply a separate slide master to either layout. However, while the "one
large text box" slide master seems to apply okay (I think it is the default),
I cannot figure out how to apply the "two side-by-side half-size text boxes"
one when I make a slide of the other layout. I think, perhaps, that what I
am missing is some way to choose a slide layout and then make a slide master
specifically for that layout. Does anyone know how to do this? I am using
PPT 2003.

Your slides are made up of two elements: a slide master and a slide layout.

The slide master holds the formatting.

The slide layout provides the appropriate placeholders.

So, if you want two side-by-side textboxes, you need to apply the slide
layout that has the title and two side-by-side placeholders. To do that go
to Format | Slide Layout and choos that layout.

If you want that slide to look physically different than the other ones,
that's when you'd apply a different slide master (also called "slide
design," for all intents and purposes). To do that, you'd go to Format |
Slide Design and choose the appropriate design or slide master. All your
slide masters show up at the top of the Slide Design pane in the "used in
this presentation" section.
