my thesis is driving me crazy

Hi. I have a document that has been created in Word using the normal template.

I have now been given a template containing formatting, styles etc that must
ben used for the document.

Can I apply the new template to the pre-existing document?

If I can, how do I do this?

I am usinbg Word 2003 on XP.

Thanks!

Found something that worked for me after a little google searching. It's not
clean, and you will still have to apply the styles, but it should make it
easier.

Save the Template to your template folder.

Got to

Tools > Templates and Add Ins...

under Document Template, Click Attach...

Select the template to attach to the document then click Open.

The template will be listed in the box under document template.

Directly under that box, click the check box next to "Automatically Update
Document Styles" (This tells it to update the existing styles to the new
ones....VERY IMPORTANT)

Click OK.

The Template should be attached to your document.

Now, you need to verify/update your styles in your document. I found this is
easiest if you have the Styles and Formatting menu open, since you will
applying a lot of styles.

To open this menu go to

Format > Styles and Formatting

at the bottom of this box, in the Show box, I choose Available styles, so
that it only shows the styles from the "approved" template, rather than all
styles that are in the document currently.

I hope this helps you out! Oh, and as always, make sure you do this on a
COPY of your thesis, not your original document. I'd hate to crash all your
work!
