Applying Office 2000 SP3

I am trying to install SP3 to my copy Office 2000 SR1a. I
download the file, run it, but I get a message box
claiming 'The Update cannot be applied.'

Does anyone know how I can SP3 my copy of office without
getting this error message

Is there room in your boat for one more? I am having the
same problem. I have serched Microsoft's overwhelming
knowledge base. But, I could not find the answer.

As I read the posting, I believe it says that you are attempting to update
to SR 3 from SR1a: I believe there is an SR 2, in which case you need to
update to 2 before you can update to 3.

You have to download and install an upgrade from the msi-
installer before you start up the sp3 upgrade.
