applying styles to example sentences.

Hello I am writing a thesis(it is in linguistics) and I provide a lot o
example sentences in it which are subsequently numbered throughout th
thesis. When I open the Document map those sentences appear as if the
are headings so I suppose I have to apply a style for those numbere
sentences so that they disappear from the Document map. Yes but whic
style to apply? there are styles for headings or paragraphs but I do no
know which style to use for individual sentences. Maybe List or? Thanks

In some versions, Word may automatically apply an "Outline level" to paragraphs
that resemble headings, such as numbered captions. You should clear the "Define
styles based on your formatting" option in the AutoCorrect dialog box. However,
stop using the Document Map may be the only long-term fix. For more, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/general/DocumentMap.htm.

By the way, which version of Word are you using? Knowing the version would make
it easier to give more specific advice.
