Applying value from Excel spreadsheet to shapes

I am using Visio 2002 Professional and want to attach discreet values to a
number of shapes. Each shape is unique and has a number of values. These
need to be updated. Currently I use Excel as a log for changing values and
wonder whether these can be applied to the drawing.
