appointments not deleting in Outlook 2002

When I use the .delete method in newer versions of Outlook, it does not
work. It does not throw an error, and I cannot see the event immediately
after running the .delete method. However, it never disappears from the
interface. I can loop through all appointments and delete them all, which
used to purge everything, but now I run the same code, and it takes as long
as before, but nothing happens. I can run the same thing over and over
again and it always acts the same. Any ideas?
