Approvals when PM is out

Does anyone have a "best practice" in place for approving tasks when the
project manager is on vacation? The only thing we come up with is to change
the authentication from Windows to Project Server and have someone else
process the approvals and update the project schedules. Are there any other
methods that seem reasonable?

Thanks Dale, I knew of this method (as we use it regularly) and will use it
for extended periods of time where the PM is unavailable. I still have a
few PM's who want to "cover for each other" - sometimes daily - or weekly.
I did explain to them that MSPS isn't designed to have project "co-managers"
so that more than one person can at any time approve hours.

In addition, in our operation, we provide an extract from MSPS that feeds a
chargeback system - so at month-end, if a PM is unavailable, it is critical
that someone approve their hours for the sake of an accurate extract.

You are going to way too much work, my friend. The simpler and much better
approach is to have another PM take over the project temporarily using the
steps in the following FAQ:

Hope this helps.
