Approved Versus Unapproved Hours in PS2007

Given the multiple steps involved in getting actual work hours into a
published report or cube view we are looking at creating a custom
report that would identify no of hours entered by resources that are
yet to be approved by a PM. We don't use the timesheet module, but
rely on the task updates to serve as a basic form of time tracking.
But eventhough team members diligently enter the no of hours they
worked on a task, the PMs appear to forget the need to (1) approve the
team members' time, and (2) publish the project plan after the
approval.

The question is then, is it possible to capture the hours entered by
team members but not yet accepted by pms.? Do we need to seek this
data off from the reporting database or will we have to tap into draft
and published databases to get to this info? Any advice is appreciated.

This kind of data is saved in a binary format in the database, which
is hard to get at. You can create an application to call the PSI and
return the results to you. I wrote an application for it. Here is the
link to it.
