Archive and Terminal Server

Joe McGuire

We have OL 2002 running on our firm's nentwork. I access it either from my
desktop at the firm or remotely, such as my home office, through the
internet via Microsoft Terminal Server. I don't really understand how
Terminal Server works except that it seems to operate as a virtual computer
with a c:\drive etc. I realized that I am having problem with archiving
(you never know of such problems until you go looking for something through
the desktop you KNOW should be there but . . . it's not and nothing else is
there either!!! On the other hand I seem to be able to dig up my archive
using the Terminal Server.

I figure I should make sure that both computers are archiving to the same
location--somewhere on our firm's network rather than the c:\ drive of the
desktop. That way there will be one archive. Is this going to create
problems? Or should I let each archive separately? Thanks! (If there is a
different forum for Terminal Server stuff please let me know!)

Pst-files are stored locally. They are not designed to be accessed from a
networkshare (although it works for most configurations) and is not
supported by Microsoft. The proper way of doing this is having your main
archive file on a networkshare (so it is included in the back-up process and
available from multiple locations) and use a local copy to connect to.
Whenever the archive file has been modified you should copy it back to the
server.
