Archive feature not working

I use Outlook as part of Office 2007. I also use the RSS feeds to get news
articles from my favourite newspaper which is great.

However I now have hundreds of links in each RSS feed going back several
months and I want to use the autoarchive feature to only keep the most
recent. For some reason it does not work - I did the following:

- right click on each feed and select properties
- go to AutoArchive tab, select 'Archive using these settings'
- set clean out items older than 3 days
- select 'permanently delete old items'
- clcik apply then OK.

But nothing happens - even after closing and reopening Outlook I have items
several months old in the feed.

They will be deleted at the next AutoArchive interval if you have it enabled
in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> AutoArchive...
To manually run it choose File-> Archive...

Thanks for that but it does not wor ! I set the auto archive interval for
1 day and then tried a manual one but:

1. it archived the inbox which I did not want (and when I checked the inbox
was set to do not archive !)
2. it archived the calendar which again I did not want
3. It did not archive the spam folder which was set to archive everything 3+
days old to the deleted folder
4. It did not archive any RSS feeds despite 3 of them set to delete if 3+
days old and the other 3 set to do the same at 3+ months.

Also it created a new pst file that I do not want to use (archive1.pst). I
manually archive all my emails to an archive I set up with the folder
structure I want to use so I never want anyything to be auto archived to
another file. All I want to do is auto delete things in RSS feed and spam
folders that are over 3 days old. Can I do that or am I stuffed by Outlook
trying to be too clever ?

No, Archive/AutoArchive is designed for that purpose but it must be
configured correctly of course and that is where things get tricky.

For AutoArchive you'll need to set the default not to archive anything or
otherwise it will also archive your other mail folders. You must set the
exceptions of your RSS feed folders and on your Junk Email folder.
AutoArchive will only archive those folders then.

When using Archive you can specify which folder it should run on and whether
you take the folder settings or overrule the date settings.

Note that archiving is being done based on the Modified Date of an item. To
see that date open the message, press the Office Logo and choose Properties.
