ARCHIVE FOLDERS

L

Luvpool

I have used archive folders for years on my computer. I download my email
and creat files within the "Archieve" file in outlook. Without knowing when
or why something has changed. When I try to drag an email from my server's
inbox and drop it into an existing archive folder, I get a pop-up that says
the file is full, delete to make space, blah blah.
Anyway, no amount of deleting has had any result. Oddly enough, I can still
create new folders within the Archive folder.

What have I changed? Who moved my cheese?

What version of Outlook are you using? How large are these Archive Folders?

Did you empty deleted items (or use shift+delete) and compact the pst? How
large is the pst? What version of outlook?

I'm using 2003. Each of the individual folders (~25) sizes vary. The total
is a whopping 1.9 gigs. There is not a space problem on my hard drive, but I
have a massive external that I could use if there are threasholds or drive
free percentage limits.

I used Shift delete, that was the only way you can delete. I have not tried
to compact the pst. The pst is 1.9GB and I am using 2003. Does compacting
it limit it's accessability? I actually work from those files regularly.

Compacting will not affect the pst - it just makes it smaller by removing
the white space.

Did you upgrade from an older version? The default pst for outlook 2003 is
unicode, which is basically unlimited size. So... I'd add a new pst to the
profile - File, Data file Management, Add - and move the contents of the old
pst to it.

Diane,
Right on the mark. Thank You very much. I upgraded to Office 2003 from 99
back in 04. (isn't that a funny sentance) I guess I just hit now the limit.
I set up the new pst and can transfer and add to it.

Thanks again!

Sounds like your archive is an old format ANSI PST. As such, it can't get any
larger than what you say it is now. Create a new archive PST.
