Archive Message Folder Script by Jolly Roger

I have a question about this script to anyone who has used it or to
the author of it - Jolly Roger, if he finds this post.
Let me start off by saying this is a wonderful, time saving script for
converting Entourage Personal Message folders into MBOX files. If you
are dealing with a multitude of folders and sub folders, it definitely
retains the folder hierarchy as promised by Jolly Roger.
But here's my question/Dilemma:
The user that I have tested this script on has 8 Root Folders, and
inside each of those root folders is a multitude of sub folders.
Now I have run the script a number of times and it makes it through
the first Root folder and its subs without a hitch.
It gets to the 2nd root folder and stops at the first sub folder. Now
I'm not sure if there are any corrupted emails in there (I have read
that the script will stop if it finds any), but what I did notice is
this user had placed a period at the beginning of that first sub
folder name (eg) .TEST
He had done it that way so that those folders with periods will sort
to the top of the list. He actually has quite a few of those types of
named folders scattered throughout the rest of his Root folders.
Has anyone encountered this when they've run this Jolly Roger script?
If Jolly Roger finds this post, do you know if your script does stop
at folders that began with a period or would it be an email corruption
issue?

I hope there's any easy solution to this (beyond removing periods from
folder names).

Thanks!

As you most likely know a period in front of a name makes that file
invisible. Usually, it's a corrupt folder that stops the script.
He had done it that way so that those folders with periods will sort
to the top of the list. He actually has quite a few of those types of

I would replace the script with a space or an *. I don't know enough about
scripting to know if this is possible to fix using a script, but expecting
someone to write a script for one person that would probably would never be
used again isn't likely.

I use this script all the time and have never seen this, but I have never
seen anyone that used a period in front a folder name.

He hasn't been on the list in quite some time. I'll cc him off list.

(Actually I did not know that. Is that logic applicable on the Mac
platform?)

(Yeah this user does a lot of things I've never seen before, but
actually using bullets
or + signs(and I guess periods ".") is a common old naming convention
practice for Mac
users who want certain folders to remain at the top of a list)

Diane,

I actually had someone in my department modify Jolly Roger's - Archive
Message Folder Apple script to include a line where it would
add a "+" in front of the "." in all the folder names on the export
portion of the script. It worked flawlessly!! And now Jolly Roger's
script ran through all the folders and sub folders and exported all
into MBOX files.
I can now take all of those MBOX files and convert them into a .pst
file (while retaining the folder hierarchy) using a little program
I found by Fookes Software called Aid4mail. http://www.aid4mail.com/reviews.php
It supports Entourage to Outlook (MBOX to .PST) without having to go
through Eudora or Thunderbird and then into Outlook Express,
and then finally into Outlook.
Initial test of Trial software worked great. Will purchase the full
software and post an update here as to my progress.
