Archiving e-mails

Mike

Hi,

We are running SBS2003, exchange and office 2003. I need to push employees
to archive older e-mail, and am looking for best practices. Do you encourage
employees to archive on a yearly, quarterly or some other time frame basis,
or is it based upon volume of messages?
Also, for notebook users, do you put the archived folders on their laptops
and make a copy to a server for backup/retention purposes?

Any advice wouldbe appreciated!

You should be archiving from the server. Begin by creating a policy for old
messages then delete everything older. If you decide you are going to keep
old stuff, then you need a proper archiving solution on the server, not a
hodgepodge of pst's floating around the network. (You need a policy for
compliance or discovery and it should be all or nothing- either keep
everything or nothing.)

Diane,

Can you give me details. I probably need to be archiving, and doing it from
the server makes sense. Can you provide me links or advice on how to best do
this?

Thanks,

Mike
