Archiving Finished Projects

Hello, I have several projects that began in 2007 and have since been
completed. I was wondering if there is a way to archive these projects so
that they no longer appear in resources task page but are still accessible.
I would like to compare 07 year projects with future years projects. I have
consulted my bible and other sources and I am not sure if this is possible.
Also it is confusing to resources to have the projects for the same client
but several different budget years appear in their tasks and several
resources have logged hours in the old completed projects by mistake. Any
help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

By the way I'm using Project 2003. Also after I archive these projects will
I be able to run reports on the archived projects? Can they be used to run
comparison reports with "live" projects?

Make all your resources "proposed" instead of "committed". You can do
this on the resource sheet for the given project --- just double click
the resource name and make the change.

You stated " I was wondering if there is a way to archive these
projects so that they no longer appear in resources task page but are
still accessible." By using proposed resources rather than commited,
you will accomplish that. The projects will still be on the server,
so you can run reports.

Is there also a way to archive a particular task within a project without
archiving the entire project?

No, there is no way to archive only an individual task. The best you can do
is to archive a project. Since you are using Project Server 2003, long ago
we developed an archiving "process" documented in the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/ArchiveCompletedProjects.aspx

The above process will keep the archived project in the Project Server
database, but will "hide" it from view from most users. If you want to
physically remove the project from the Project Server database and move it
to a new database, you could also purchase a 3rd party tool at the following
URL:

http://www.projectmadeeasy.com/archive.htm

Please note that I have not used the above-referenced Phyiscal Archive Tool
personally, though I know one of the developers who created it. Hope this
helps.
