Archiving Problem for user.

Hello all,

I am trying to archive the mailbox of a user to a PST file.

When I go to archive, the process goes through all the folders (this is seen
at the bottom right hand corner of the status bar) but no files are archived.
The folder structure is created but nothing gets moved.

Prior to this, the user had 3 PST files and I merged all the data back into
the mailbox with the intention to create one big PST Archive file as the user
was always having problems locating emails.

We are using Exchange 5.5 with Outlook 2003 as the front end.

Can somebody please help me with the solution? I have been searching for a
long while but no success.

These are the extra steps that I have already done:
1. Increased the mailbox size to 100MB above the actual mailbox size, her
mailbox is 700MB and the limit has been increased to 800MB.
2. Logged her off, logged back on, tried to archive but the same problem.
3. She is still unable to send email due to the size of the mailbox.

I have a feeling that the settings from the master exchange server for
mailbox size has not replicated (this was done yesterday. Master exchange
server is in the USA and the local exchange server is here in Australia.) so
I will try the above 3 steps agian now.

If anyone has any further ideas could you please let me know?

By merging it back to the original mailbox you've changed the modified date
of the messages to todays date. AutoArchive works with the modified date to
determine if messages need to be archived.

From here you can only do a manual archive by moving the messages to the
archive pst-file.

Aloha Jainesh,

Archive isn't going to work because when you moved the items to merge the
PSTs you changed the modified date of the items which is what Archive is
based off of.

Ideally you should keep all messages you care about in the mailbox, provided
you have the disk/store space to do it. If you don't have the disk/store
space I would create a brand new, Outlook 2003 Unicode, PST file and then
manually move any items/folders you want to put there into that PST file.

Hello All,

Thanks for your advice on this one, I did end up having to do a manual
archive for the user... what a waste of 2 hours it was... anyway thank you
once again.
