Are all MS Office 2007 apps the same accross the different version

Are all MS Office apps the same? Are Word, Excel, and PowerPoint exactly the
same in all the different versions of office? I teach MS Office and the
workbook I received have different Ribbon Toolbars illustrated then I have on
my computer. The arrangement positions of the buttons are different. I use
MS Office 2007 Standard. I don't know what version was used when compliing
the workbook was done.

If you are asking if Word 2007 as a standalone program is the same as Word
2007 in Office Pro (for example), then yes. Are you using thr same monitor
and resolution when you see different toolbars?

I have received a workbook from my organization whereby I am supposed to
teach Word 2007. In this workbook the illustrations therein do not correspond
with my copy of Word 2007 as shown on my monitor. The buttons on the Ribbon
Toolbar in the workbook are positioned differently than they actually are
positioned on my copy of Word 2007 Standard Edition. I am trying to point
out problems in the workbook before I begin teaching, and present them to
headquarters to be corrected in future editions. Now I am trying to
determine if there are differences between editions such as Word in Office
for Small Businesses, Home and Student, Office Professional, and Standard.
Do all display the same GUI? If they don't, then I will understand why the
illustrations are different to what is shown on the screen on my computer. I
will be teaching Excel and PowerPoint in the future, and if by then I see
differences again I will know what to do. I know that some Editions will
have fewer options and others more. But when I execute Word 2007 in the
Standard edition, will the display on the monitor be the same as in the other
editions, or are buttons located in different positions on the Ribbon Toolbar
in each Version?

It could be that the illustrations are tweaked toolbars and not default
settings. Or have you personalized your settings?

The various programs are the same across editions.

The only differences between the different suites if which programs are
included. Word 2007 is the same in all versions (for example) except that
there is a notation in the title bar saying that it's for non-commercial use
only.

It's possible that whoever prepared the workbook used a pre-release version
of Office. If I were to see screen shots for your version versus those in
the workbook, I could say for sure.

The other thing that makes a difference, as JoAnn's question about
resolution says, is resolution and how big the window is. Some chunks
collapse or spread out depending on how much room is available. This can
make the ribbon look dramatically different, even though the identical tools
are available. To see what I mean, make the Word window as wide as possible
without maximizing it. Now, slowly drag the right or left border so that the
window gets narrower, and watch the ribbon as the window narrows. Observe
what happens to the tools. See if there's a width that makes your window
correspond to what you see in the workbook.

Thank you Herb. That is exactly what happened. It was the width that made
the difference.

Thanks again

Thank you for that explanation. That's exactly where I was going. :)

I spent about a page explaining that in my book a couple of years ago after
I looked at two open Word windows and saw different ribbons and figured
"Wow. That's going to confuse somebody down the road." ;-)
