Are there issues migrating Access 2003 ADP to Access 2007 environment?

I have an application written as an Access 2003 ADP. As long as an ADP is
supported in an Access 2007 environment I do not intend to switch to a MDB
with ODBC.

Are there any issues when migrating to the Access 2007 environment I will
have to deal with? Like the new user interface of Access 2007, the use of
menu bars etc. Or any other issues I did not come up with?

Any hands on experience will be greatly appreciated.

The best way for you to know would be to test it by yourself. There have
been a lot of issues published for ADP 2007; an hotfix has been released and
then a Service Pack for Office 2007 (see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936982/en-us ).

However, even with the SP, there are still many issues for big databases
(those with hundreds of tables), the Runtime, the use of the menu bars (this
one is not related to ADP in particular but to Access in general) and
probably some new bugs here and there.

Unless you need the runtime or want to directly make changes to the design
of a SQL-Server 2005 from Access (instead of using the SSMS), if I were you,
I would keep going with Office 2003 and start thinking about switching to
..NET.

In my case, my old machine (three to four years old) is not powerful enough
to run ADP 2007 in a virtualized environment; everything is going extremely
slow, even after having applied the SP1 (but the problem is much less after
the SP1 but still, far from being fast enough to be workable). I don't have
any of these speed problems when I make tests with a MDB file and ODBC
linked tables (either with A2003 or A2007) or with ADP 2003 under the exact
same virtual environment.

It's a certainty that buying a faster machine might solve this problem (but
I'm still not sure about those with really big databases); however, if your
installation is already constrained...

Many thanks for your reply. Testing myself will give the answers, but my
customer wanted to get a feeling of what to expect before I start doing some
work. As I read what is published I may well be in for some surprises! And
going from ADP to ACCDB gives me shivers.

Have you looked at this site, most of your questions are covered. Biggest
issue I have seen is the user interface but with time this too shall pass.
