are there rules of punctuation ?

I mean, different than normal writing/typing.

For example, if I set up a flyer or business card (or even on a webpage) do I still use commas, etc in the same places, as I would typing something out?

This came up on flyers and business cards I made for someone, they felt I should put commas after everything, like September 24, 2007 even when there was a list of dates and/or hours, etc on it.

I thought it was too much, and left them out. Like September 24 2007

Of course, writing a business letter or such, one would use comma, periods, etc in all the usual places. And maybe if something was listed, like Monday, Tuesdeay, Wedsday, etc. But, it could also be Mon * Tues * Wed* ...?

Especially business cards, which are small, commas seem to give it a cluttered look.

Should the months always be spelled out fully?

I know too many exclaimation points aren't good. I imagine booklets and flyers with several pages of text would use punctuation in the normal way.

Is there any kind of "rules" to go by with this? Using commas, periods, etc in flyers, posters, cards, etc?

Thanks,

Carrie

Okay, I had put words in google before, but thought there might be a simple easy to remember way. For DTP use. This time I put in "punctuation flyers desk top publishing" and getting more. Just have to weed out the ones like "do you use 1 or 2 spaces after a period".

Basic punctuation I'm pretty sure of, it was the printing (flyers, business cards, etc) I wasn't sure about. It might be different rules.

Maybe it's whatever looks good.

I sometimes use the Chicago Manual of Style but my usual style is heavily influenced by military and commercial specifications and standards.
