Arial Unicode MS gets STUCK in an object ??

How in the heck does one get RID of that Arial Unicode MS font in a
presentation??

I know what unicode fonts are, and I know the Replace Fonts command
will not convert them to Times New Roman, for example. I also know that
I can click the text objects, one by one, and convert the font
manually...

BUT that doesn't always work. I have found several cases from multiple
users where that crazy font became embedded in the object. Yes, it got
stuck with no way to get rid of it except to rebuild the object. No
matter how we change the font, by the object or by the characters, it
remains embedded. Once we manually change the font like that, the
characters no longer display as Arial Unicode MS, and they don't show
as Arial Unicode MS in the Font properties for that object... BUT Arial
Unicode MS remains in the file properties. In other words, the font is
imprisoned in the presentation file even after we released it. This is
really horrible if you elect to embed fonts because that font (which
you thought was gone) gets embedded even though it's not in the
presentation. Then, of course, saving the file takes one gazillion
years.

The only way to correct this I have found is to manually check each
object in the presentation to track down the text object(s) that have
the embedded Arial Unicode MS font. Lots of fun that is when there's a
few hundred slides with multiple objects on each. Once located, each
text object must be deleted and re-built fresh.

This seems whacky to me to have to go through all this. Surely there's
a better way, isn't there?

Wanna see for yourself? I have an example slide of such a text object
with an imprisoned Arial Unicode MS font. I will send it to you if you
want to see it and TRY to remove the font yourself. If you can
eliminate it... I'm all ears.

with an imprisoned Arial Unicode MS font. I will send it to you if you
want to see it and TRY to remove the font yourself. If you can
eliminate it... I'm all ears.

To all those who wrote me asking for the file, I've now sent it to you
according to the address you gave. Check your inbox. BTW, the file is
only a 9kb file.

Note too, this is a problem only in PowerPoint. Word does not even
"see" the Unicode font in the object. Plus, even if Word does embed the
Unicode font, it adds a mere few hundred kilobytes to the file.
PowerPoint, OTH, adds a whopping 12 megabytes! So, what's up with PPT?
