Sorry: You will get used to it
That's the Mac OS way of doing things. The File>Open window you are seeing
is generated by Mac OS, not Word. Word simply uses the standard System
window.
I have taken to ensuring that there are no "Files" in my higher-level
folders. So I don't get confused...

Hi: I would like to have the items in the "open file" window arranged so that
folders appear first and documents follow. Currently all documents and folders
appear alphabetically with folders and documents mixed together (quite
confusing). Any advice?
