User sees message pop up that new mail has arrived, but it doesn't display in
his inbox until he changes folders then returns to his inbox. Same occurs
with deleted messages, sent items, etc.

Customer is running Outlook 2003 SP2

Hi,

You could start with renaming the file views.dat and restarting the machine.
It might reset the corrupted settings that shows the emails in folders.

Thanks,

This is Outlook 2003. Did a search for views.dat and the file was not found.
Searched for *.dat then sorted by name still not found. My next step was to
rename the user's profile to let the system recreate it when he logs in, then
migrate is personal folders, etc. to the new profile.

Views.dat has nothing to do with displaying items in Outlook folders. It was used in Outlook 2002 and earlier versions to store the user's custom views of system folders.

What you may have is a UDP issue. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;839226
