arrow keys scrolling

My arrow keys scroll instead of selecting the next cell, in the
direction of the arrow. How can I make them work properly? Also, the
SCRL and NUM buttons at the bottom of the screen are lighted. How do I
turn them off and on? Thanks

You may have a "Num Lock" and "Scroll Lock" keys on your keyboard,
they'll do the job. On my laptop (PBG4), there is no "Scroll Lock" key,
though :-(

"Control-F14" should do the job (on an extended keyboard - if you have a
PowerBook, it may be a bit different). It should turn off the SCRL green
light and you'd have the normal behavior back...

As to the NUM light, JCA's reply should have helped you out already

Thanks for the advice, however, I have a PBG4 and there is no F14 key.
I have a num lock key but it does not turn off the NUM light. Any
other suggestions? Bruce

Hell ! I never realized that: the NUM light on screen doesn't switch,
but the NUM light on board does ! So you must only trust your keyboard
light. The CAPS LOCK keys is ok, though. Concerning the Scroll Lock, my
screen light is off, and I don't know how to switch.
MS knowledge base doesn't seem to give the answer: it says to use F14,
but there is no F14. Maybe another key emulates F14 ? I remember one can
do that in X11. And no need to say, Excel help have no answer (not even
the F14).
Actually, I don't even know how one can activate SCROLL LOCK on a
PowerBook... Sorry.

Ok, I borrowed the USB keyboard from my I-MAC and used the F14 key and
waalaa! No more scroll light. Now, does anyone know of a way to
change the "highlight" around the active cell?. Mine is so dim that I
have a hard time seeing wher the active cell is. I would love to make
it BOLD or RED or anything except the light blue that it is. Thanks!

The highlight color comes from the System Highlight Color (System
Preferences/Appearance).

If you don't want to make a system wide change, check out Chip Pearson's
RowLiner add-in:

Or use the "defaults" command line program ? I know it works for font
smoothing, maybe also for highlight color.

Things may be somewhat different on a PowerBook. But the standard behavior
in Excel is that the NUM light toggles on/off with the "Shift-Num Lock" key
combination. But the result may somewhat be odd as it's the Windows Num Lock
you're de-activating that way. This means the keys are then equivalent to
the arrow keys. So I guess you'll rather keep the green light on ;-)

I'm sorry, I don't know how you can do it on a PowerBook. Maybe there could
be a clue, as the F14 key on a "Apple Pro Keyboard" is the one that reduces
the brightness on the screen. So, if there is a key combination to reduce
the brightness on a PowerBook (and I guess there is), you could try if
adding the Control key to that key combination does toggle that SCRL green
light in Excel...

NumLock is fn-F6, and shift-NumLock does nothing. Not very important anyway.

That's fn-F1. And no need to say, it doesn't work :) I tried all
combinations of fn-alt-ctrl-cmd-F1, and most of the other Fx keys.
No way.

Just out of curiosity, what does ScrollLock do, on MacOSX and Excel ?
