Hi PJH

Sadly am not writing with a solution, but just to say, I've got the same problem. Only became an issue after I'd I installed the automatic update yesterday (to 12.2.4).

Have you seen this?:
http://www.officeformac.com/ms/ProductForums/Word/7595/0?@@

There were a number of suggested solutions there which seemed to work for those guys, but having tried the normal.dotm and .plist suggestions I am still faced with the same issue.

Ideally, I would simply revert to a pre-update version of my system using Time Machine. But that assumes I've got an external hard drive to back up to. D'oh.

Have you tried reinstalling the programme from scratch using your original disc? Again, I'd do this if I actually had it but I've got one of the three licences that came with my friend's disc and she's on the other side of the country right now.

So...any more bright ideas? :)

Your issue has nothing to do with the subject of this thread. To avoid any
confusion post a NEW MESSAGE & make sure to specify your exact version
update levels of OS X as well as Office.

It's best for you as well as others to not REPLY unless you have a
suggestion or solution to offer the user who started the thread.

Was Word running when you deleted the .plist file? If so Word did create a
new one but simply wrote the corrupt info back into it from RAM. Quit all
Office apps, delete the .plist file again, then restart your Mac & see if
the problem continues.

Just for the record, there is nothing inherent about the 12.2.4 update that
would have caused this behavior. If it does continue please post a NEW
MESSAGE rather than a REPLY to this unrelated thread. I've encouraged the
other user who erroneously replied here to do the same. It's best to focus
on each individual case so that feedback & replies don't get tangled up in
each other's underwear.

Hi Bob

Thanks for your reply. Am a little confused, so would be grateful of your patience as it's the first time I've posted to a forum like this.

Just to check, I did look around the forums for messages relating to my problem with my Arrow Keys, and found several that were old and had been closed. This one, which was dated yesterday, was still open, and entitled 'Arrow Keys' appeared to be the most appropriate place to post the same question as I did not wish to be chastised by a moderator for starting new threads unnecessarily. If there is another more suitable thread somewhere, please could you point me at it and I will happily take the query there.

Regarding your suggestions, thanks again. After I'd found the advice in the old thread (which I posted for reference above) about replacing normal.dotms and plists, I looked in a number of other places for guidance before attempting it myself. Like yourself, all sources stressed the importance of having closed down all Office applications first. So, I made sure Word wasn't running when I tried it, and alas, still found the problem with the Arrow Keys remained.

I have no doubt that update 12.2.4 is not the actual cause of this, but having read through a number of threads here now, most moderators asked about version numbers etc, so I figured I should supply this information, especially as the problem had only arisen after the install.

Is there any way you are aware of that I can uninstall the update and then try it again to see if my arrow keys revert to normal?

If not, it's OK, I think 'I don't know' is a perfectly valid answer. At least I'll know I'm not asking a stupid question!

Thanks once again, Simon :)

Hi Simon:

What Bob was suggesting is "You are an individual, and so is your computer:
start your OWN thread, so we can give you an answer made just for you :)"

As a first step, try this:

1) Track down all instances of pre-2008 Normal template on your computer,
and drag them to your desktop. The file is called simply "Normal" and has
no extension.

2) Find and delete the file Normal.dotm. Unless you have moved it, it
should be in
/Users/~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/

3) If the following files exist, Remove or rename them:

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (10)

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (11)

4) User/Library/Preferences/com.Microsoft.Word.plist

5) User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008 (the whole folder!)

6) Then Repair Permissions with Disk Utility.

7) Then shut-down the computer until the power goes off, and start up
again.

That's the "shotgun fix" :) Whatever it is, if the problem is anywhere in
Office, that will fix it. If that doesn't fix it, then we have to look
deeper, in which case, start your own thread by mentioning as much detail
about your computer (and particularly, the software you are running) as you
can.

Hope this helps
