Arrows & Shapes

S

Shawn

When I use the arrow or shape from the drawing tool bar it moves the text and
acts like a clip-art insert. I have used arrows & shapes previously to
point at a particular word or a spot in a picture. That is not what is
happening today.

My gut says that something in 'Format' or 'Options' has changed. Advice
Please.

Right-click the arrow or shape and choose Format AutoShape. Click the Layout tab
and click the "In front of text" button.

That will do the job for any individual shape, but I don't know why you're
getting them initially as "In line with text". Even when I select one that I've
made in-line and choose Set AutoShape Defaults from the right-click menu, it
doesn't change the default wrapping of "In front of text". I'm not aware of any
other option that affects AutoShapes.

I am not sure whether I understand your description correctly but it sounds
as if the wrapping style is "In line with text". To be able to place the
shape on top other items, double-click the shape to open the Format AutoShape
dialog box. On the Layout tab, change the wrapping style to "In front of
text".

Thank you both for the suggestions.

Whether I used 'In Line' or 'In Front' the text or picture would move out of
the way of the arrow line.

I then right clicked the arrow line itself and pressed 'Set Auto Shape
Defaults' and now I can place the arrow line on top of anything, text,
pictures makes no difference. Then I had to see what changed so I opened the
'format autoshape' nothing shows differently. Not even the 2 tabs under the
'advance button'. Go Figure.
