How do I type an & as text in an Access report? I type it in design view,
but it disappears when I view the report.

It's not clear what problem you are having.
If you are entering text into the control source of an unbound text
control:
="John Brown & sons"
will display as
John Brown & sons
in the report.

If you are entering that same text as the caption of a label (or
Command Button), double it up.

John Brown && sons
will display as
John Brown & sons
