ASP problem: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Hi,

I am using FP2003 and Access2000 as my backend database. I am publishing to
a shared hosted site at the ISP with FP extensions and ASP enabled.

When I run a DRW, I get the following error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'FP_FieldVal'

/stocktest.asp, line 248

I have checked everything - and I still cannot figure out the problem. The
above problem was just running a DRW with no WHERE clause - i.e. just listing
a table's contents in DRW.

Can someone help?

I had this problem a few nights ago. My problem differed due to the
application (running Snitz Forum software):

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'
Type mismatch: "GetCurrentIcon"
forum/inc_header.asp, line 235

When I went to inspect the document, nothing on that line should have
affected anything at all. While this is different in the applications, my
solution may work for you. I downloaded the applications zip file again and
replaced all of the ASP files with the new stock files from the zip file.
Making sure I did not replace my config.asp file and one other file.

So give this a try... hopefully it will work for you. Try replacing just the
"stocktest.asp" file first. If that doesn't work replace the other asp files
also.

This can happen when a field contains a null value in it, and the
application tries to treat it like a string, number, or whatever type of
data is supposed to be in that field. Try disallowing nulls in the database.

i have checked everything (I have made around 15 sites using FP2000 and drw)
and I cannot get this FP2003 site working. help!

How is this field defined in the database? All the attributes please. Can you post the
query that errors?

Hi Skc,

Sorry, I was off yestertday, so I wasn't able to get back to you early
enough. While I am an expert with ASP and database programming, my expertise
with FrontPage-generated code is somewhat limited (to say the least, as I
never use FP for database work). It looks like the FP_FieldVal function gets
a value from a database column in a given record, of that I'm relatively
sure. Now, as to the problem, I don't know which line in all the code you
posted threw the exception, as there are a half-dozen that use that
function. I was able to determine that some of your column names are
"reserved words" in Access, although I'm not sure which ones, as I'm not
familiar with ALL of the Access reserved words. But candidates would include
columns named:

"Text" (not sure about this one, depends on the dbms)
"Desc" (abbreviation for DESCENDING, as in order of records)

Try renaming those columns.

I think the error message is wrong, and/or this is not the page where the error occurs.
There is very little VB script on this page, and these lines don't have anything to do

I'm with Kevin on not being up on FP wizzard code. IMHO it's well worth the time to learn
how to hand code this stuff. It sure makes debugging a lot simpler. That however doesn't
address your problem.

The error message mentions a line number. I assumed it referred to stocktest.asp, and
those lines are near that number (line 248), depending on how lines break in your editor,
which may be different from what I see here, which is dependent on among other things, my
newsreader program.

After looking at the HTML for stocktest.asp, I don't see anything in the lines arround
line 248 that is database related, so I was trying to pin down exactly where the error
occured.

Does stocktest.asp display all the images when it loads? Does the error message appear
when you mouseover or click on an image?

The line #'s reported often include the lines from any include pages, and are highly dependent on your FP Code view settings
- in my case that page shows me w/ line 248 being
