Assign keyboard shortcut - won't!

I have several Addin macros I want to assign to keyboard shortcuts. No
macro I
assign to a keyboard shortcut "takes". Anything besides macros assign just
fine, but my Addin macros just won't. Any ideas out there?

For example, I want to assign F12 to a macro "myMacro", and it won't. It
acts as if it assigns, but when I test to re-assign F12, nothing is shown to
have been assigned -- after I just assigned! If I assign F12 to "FileClose"
it assigns just fine.

Is this using KeyBindings, or the user interface (a dialog box)? Which version
of Word?

FWIW, this happened to me once, long ago; and to someone else, at about the
same time. Word 97 or 2000, as I recall. We never did track down what the
problem was - one day it just went away. Renaming Normal.dot and the usual
troubleshooting steps didn't help.
