Dear Microsoft Office Project User,

I understand your question as you need to assign the task work (that is,
Task A needs 8 hours) unevenly between two resources (R1 would need 5 hours,
R2 would need 3 hours).

Follow the below steps to achieve this goal.
Step 1: Change your view to Gantt Chart view with Entry table
Step 2: Fill the task name with work has 8 hours (this 8 hours is the task
work).
Step 3: Choose Window > Split. Microsoft Office Project would display the
Task Form at the bottom. Task Form would display "Resources & Predecessors"
details.
Step 4: Select any field in the "Task Form".
Step 5: Right-click the grey canvas area on the right of the "Task Form" and
select "Resource Work"
Step 6: In the Task For, select the resources (say R1, and R2) in each row
and provide the work to be allocated to each resources in "Work" column of
Task form (say 5 hours to R1 and 3 hours to R2).
Step 7: Click "OK" button in the "Task Form".

Remember! In Microsoft Office Project, the definition of the field "Work"
changes based on where it is displayed.
# If you see the "Work" field in the Gantt Sheet, it is called as "Task
Work".
# If you see the "Work" field in the "Task Form", it is called as
"Assignment Work"; total work assigned to the resource for the particular
task.
# If you see the "Work" field in the "Resource Sheet", it is called as
"Resource Work"; total work spent by the resource in your schedule.

Please let us know if this helps.
