Assignment displays in PWA but not Project Professional

Hi,

I've got a problem where in PWA, the resource can update hours associated
with a task but when I open the project in Project Professional, the user is
not assigned to the task. The project manager has no idea how this happened.
I started researching this issue because the actual hours reported through
Portfolio Analyzer did not match the hours reported by the resources. If
traced the problem to the fact that there are rows missing from the
msp_assignment table. I don't know how or why this could be happening.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

One reason could be that the resource might have used 'Assign myself to an
existing task' option on Tasks page in PWA. Later on manager might not have
approved that task self-assignment from user.

Due to this and couple of other reasons, I emphasize on PWA users to look at
indicators in Indicator column in PWA Tasks page. Sometime users hide that
column by dragging it to left. Just hovering your mouse over the indicator
cell of a particular task will display a popup with indicator details.

First Resolution:
1. Open the project plan in Project professional
2. Select the task
3. Go to Collaborate meny > Publish > Republish Assignments
4. Pick 'Selected Items' from the 'Republish Assignments For' drop down on top
5. Click OK.

It will re-publish the updated task assignment for that task. After that
view the project plan details in Project Center & select the 'Task Summary'
view to see the resources who are assigned to that task. Check the PWA
timesheet of the resource & look for updated indicator (if any) for that task.

Last Resort:
If the above resolution doesn't work, then use the method below as a
guideline.

FaisalM,

Thanks for your response. I've checked with the resources. They did not
assign tasks to themselves. Many of them did not even know how to assign
tasks to themselves.

Thanks, but I think it's a bigger problem than that. If it was simply the PM
removing the resource from the task, the resouce's timesheet should indicate
that the task was deleted. The resource is able to apply time to the task.
Also, an email would have been set to the resource indicating that the task
has been deleted.
