Assignment Level Custom Fields (Outline Codes, et al)

Is there a way to make custom fields for assignment levels?
For example, i can set task outline codes for Capital and Expense, but want
to be able to do this at the assignment level?

If you create the task outline code and then switch to a task usage view, add
the new code, you should be able to specify the code at the assignment level
in addition to the task level.

That was what i was thinking...but the drop down list at the assignment level
in Task Usage View is greyed out, not active.
So i can't assign the outline code 'capital' or 'expense' to the resource
name level:

Task: Audit Compliance

Assignment: Stephanie

Oops, my bad. You can do this with task fields that have drop-down values
but not with the outline codes. There are assignment resource outline codes
in the object model, but I believe you have to use a macro to populate these
values. Will a task field work for you, or was your intent tied to being
able to pull this into the portfolio analyzer?

A custom task field will work. I just need to move it from Outline Code level
to Custom Field level. I'll go with that....thx
