Assignment Owner - definition and use?

Can somebody validate that my assumption is correct:

* I am the PM of a Project (MSP2007 on Server 2007.)
* All of my resources are on MSP2007, but this is a new tool that we're
using and I'm not ready to have them update their own actuals, for fear of
adding another todo to their plate.
* I do, however, have one person on the team who is very savvy and also a
good coordinator of what's going on.
* I would like that person to be in charge of updating all actuals, but VIA
PWA.
* Because I am the PM and want to continue to own the schedule, I don't want
to give this person ownership of the schedule. I do want her to be the owner
of having to gather the task updates and enter them for people.
* If I insert the Assignment Owner column in the .mpp and set her to be the
owner for all tasks, does this mean that the resourcing still is with the
original assignees, but that this one person is now going to get all of the
tasks to update in one shot via "My Tasks?" This is what I want - or at
least, some way for her to do mass updates of all tasks via PWA is what I
want.
* Assuming the point above is correct, then does it mean that by entering a
value for assignment owner that the assignees (resource names) will no longer
see the tasks in My Tasks, or will they still see them and not be able to
update them?

Brian:

Great job, you are correct on all counts including the fact that the
assigned resource will no longer see the tasks on their my tasks page. You
can provide them viewability to this data through Project Detail views in
PWA.

Perfect- thanks, Gary. Although I don't want to do this in a fully deployed
state, this option should allow us to get through the bumps and serve as a
bit of a hack while we slowly train our resorces on how to manage their tasks
via PWA.

Thanks and hope to get to meet you in Phoenix later this summer.
