Association and StereoType fields of a Link are browned out. How.

I'm running Visio Pro 2003, SP1

Given:
Object1 and Object2 realized from Class1 and Class2 respectively.
AssociationA between Class1 and Class2.

Problem:
Created Link1. However, the Association and StereoType fields are browned
out. Also, the realization link button on the shape display options page for
AssociationA is not settable.

How do I show that Link1 is realized from AssociationA?
