At start up outlook says the "mailbox was not closed properly"

Each time Outlook opens it goes through a lengthy check after the message
above. It started happening just recently and occurs each time Outlook is
opened. I am closing bu terminating outlook and then shutting down via the
"shut down" selection.

Have you tried running scanpst.exe against your .pst file? What version of
Outlook? Do you use a PDA or SmartPhone? Is it still cradled when you shut
down Outlook?
