Would somone please tell me how to add a Progress bar to the Summary Task Bar
on a Gantt Chart. I have a paper copy of a plan with a progress bar attached
to the Summary Task Bar in the Gantt representing an average of the %
Completed of its related completed Task. However so far none of my PMs know
who did it or how to do it.
Thanks IA,

Hi Brady,

Have you looked at the Tracking Gantt view? There is a bar definition
for Summary Task progress which shows the following definition in the
Format > Bar Styles dialog box:

Name: Summary Progress
Appearance: Gridded progress line
Show for.. Tasks: Summary
Row: 1
From: Start
To: Summary Progress

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

ulie,
That was it! However if I try to expand formating the Gantt with e.g.
critical task, normal task & links I lose the Tracking Gannt view. How do I
keep it with my additions to the Gantt?
thanks,

Hi Brady,

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "expand the formatting" are you
running the Gantt chart wizard? If so, yes, running the Gantt chart
wizard against the Tracking Gantt chart seems to remove the bar
definition for Summary Progress. Try the following:

Format > Bar Styles
Insert a Row underneath the Progress bar definition
Add the Summary Progress bar definition I outlined in my original post.

Does that work?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I tried the new definition, however it changes the Summary Progress
definition without adding the progess bar to the Summary Task Bar. It looks
like only the Tracking Gantt view holds the key to Summary Progress bar? Is
there another way to add it?

Hi Brady,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I am able to add a summary progress
bar to a regular Gantt chart (not Tracking Gantt), so I'm not sure what
is causing the problem with your file.

What version of MS Project are you using and what service pack? You are
working on a file that has tracked data?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
