Attaching Templates to Projects

M

magsalaska

My company has just installed a prototype of MS Project Server.

In PWA when you click on Documents, and then click on Public, we have
two folders - Shared Documents, and Templates. We have loaded our
project management templates under the Templates folder. However, we
can not link these templates to any project or tasks. I have no
problems uploading documents in a particular project as long as we
upload the documents in the shared folder for that project.

I need to be able to access the templates folder with the ability to
attach the templates to any project in PWA.

Can anyone help?

I am not sure that I fully understand your issue but it appears that you wish
to have a templates library within each projects WSS (Windows SharePoint
Services) site.
If that is the case then you would need to modify the SharePoint Template
that used by Project Server to create SharePoint sites and include those
templates in a Template document library within the WSS site template.

Understand that I do not recommend this approach due to the duplication of
templates on every site though. A caution here is to remember that any items
loaded to the template file will be loaded to every ‘site’ that is created

I will not go thru it step by step but I can point you in right direction.

Project Server Admin Information:
Under the (Admin) menu within Project Server 2003 PWA click the (Manage
Windows SharePoint Services) menu.
On the side menu click the (Site provisioning settings) menu
In the main window you will see a list of settings under (Specify root Web
site settings)
Under (Site template) there is a drop down box which is by default selected
to (Project Workspace)

Template File:
The (Project Workspace) is the WSS template that used to create project
sites within SharePoint services.

A new site template (.stp) can be created that has more or less information
or is customized in any way.

To create a new site template:

The first thing I would do is to review both the SharePoint Services
Administrators Guide here:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/wss/2/all/adminguide/en-us/default.mspx

and, the SharePoint Services SDK here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...62-c2e9-4ca3-a2a0-7d4319980011&DisplayLang=en

In the admin guide read the section on working with templates and read about
working with the stsadm.exe utility. Specifically: (Managing the Central
Template Gallery)

Hope the information helps!

Scott
