Attachment field in msg header

In the past I have had a field in the message header where the attachments
would go but over time that field disappeared. How can I get it back?

Did you change your default format? Try plain text or HTML.

Switch your message format from Rich Text to Plain Text or HTML via;
Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Format
