Hi,

I've been sending .jpeg attachments of iPhoto photographs that I have
re-worked using Adobe PhotoDeluxe, an older, out of market, wonderful little
program, to a recipient who can't open them. My attachments have almost
always been received by the people I send them to.
When I save the Adobe files (and any file I'm working with) I do so in a
..jpeg format because that extension seems so universal. These files always
upload to ebay and craigslist.

In Adobe PhotoDeluxe there are other choices of extension when saving the
Adobed file. They are:

PhotoDeluxe 2.0 & 1.0
Photoshop 2.0 3.0 & 4.0
Adobe Acrobat
BMP
EPS FlashPix
JPEG
PCX
PICT File
Pict Resource
PNG
Targa
TIFF

At the bottom of an Entourage window are my choices on sending, which I
don't know much about.

"1.5 GB Ram Encode for any computer (AppleDouble) no compression, Windows
file name extensions"

I hope one of you experts knows about the window that drops down when the
above is clicked.

I don't know yet if the recipient uses Mac or PC.

I practiced once with a photo file of only 500 kb.

Any ideas why he isn¹t getting the attachments?

Thanks, Rafael

Clueless or not, getting the pictures to him may fatten my wallet.
Are you saying that .jpeg is flawless in it's receptivity by another
computer, unless that computer is a Kaypro? Do you think that he might be
able to open a file with a different extension. I'm going to try that. If
all else fails he can drive his old Volvo here and see the real goods...with
cash in pocket.

If he is not getting the attachments, it's possible he has set to only
partially upload messages. This would not download the attachment, but he
should be able to click and get remaining message. Without more info on what
he is seeing we could only guess at the solution.

Ask him to Forward (not Reply) your message back to you. Is the
attachment still there?

Hi!
I don't know yet if the recipient uses Mac or PC.

I am going to go way out on a limb here and suggest a PC is at the other
end. If that's true, you have a classic problem. Where the Macintosh takes
an "intelligent" approach to knowing what files are (using data stored in an
area of the file system known as a resource fork), a PC running Windows is
generally dependant on the file having a proper (and usually three letter!)
extension. In your case, you might need to use ".jpg" instead of ".jpeg".
The Finder can help you apply the needed correction to a filename...just
type in a period and the three letter extension for the file in question if
it doesn't already have one. Some versions of Mac OS X ask if you really
want to do that...say yes.

I would say that your computer is doing a fine job of sending the file but
for some reason or another, the extension is not being applied. Some newer
Mactinosh programs are aware of this problem and save files with extensions,
or allow you to choose an option to do so. Older programs may not be able to
do this though they should work fine with the renamed files. Entourage
should add the extension if the option to do so is selected, but it does not
always do this.

Beyond your computer, you should definitely try to verify that the user on
the other end has a program capable of displaying JPEG images (any web
browser will do), that it is installed correctly, and that they know how to
use it.

I see I didn't send .jpeg. Here's what I sent:

I originally sent him eleven attachments with a total size of 4534 kb
Five are .jfif
Six are .jpg

Is there any reason that having five .jfif would keep him from opening six
..jpg?

Not that I can think of... If you want, re-send the exact same message
to my email address and I'll tae a look.

I sent it to your address. 11 attachments. Maybe you'd like a nice
halloween costume. Holiday discount.

BTW, what are .jfif files? This is a new one for me.

When sending lots of attachments, you might want to put them all in a folder
and zip them. To zip, control click on folder and select "create archive of
xxx".
