attachment opening

I'm new to outlook 2007 which is not opening attachments in the same way as
did 2003. On double clicking the attachment - it opens sure enough - into the
task bar. I'd really like it to minimise outlook and open the attachment into
the screen in it's appropriate programme.
I've looked through as many settings as I could - but guess I'm still
missing something?
Please advise...

A single click gives the option of preview - but as I'm talking about a lotus
file, I don't have a previewer for it - and it wouldn't help anyway. I need
the attachment to open into lotus which it does - but it opens onto the
taskbar - I'm hoping to get it
to minimise outlook - and open straight away into lotus. Word and excel
files do open straight away - but lotus opens to the taskbar.
