Attachment Security Warning

I have one user who get the "Attachment Security Warning" everytime they try
to open an ".xnk" (link) file in Outlook 2002. I have done the registry hack
by adding the Level1Remove to the registry to no avail. This is isolated to
this system, other users do not have this issue.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Rick

Sounds like the registry value isn't configured correctly or maybe Outlook hasn't been restarted. See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm

I checked and rechecked - registry entry is correct. I have removed
office/outlook and re-installed. I removed office/outlook manually including
all registry entries - problem still exists. I am at a los at this point to
understand this.

Can you export that part of the registry, open the .reg file and post the relevant entry in the text of your response?

Also, check on the Help | About Microsoft Outlook dialog and tell us what it says for "security mode."

Registry Export:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security]
"Level"=dword:00000002
"UseCRLChasing"=dword:00000001
"OutlookSecureTempFolder"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\ddwyer\\Local
Settings\\Temporary Internet Files\\OLK79\\"
"Level1Remove"=".xnk

Security Mode: User Controlled

The Level1Remove entry looks a little weird, because it doesn't have a closing quotation mark. Maybe it's corrupted? I'd try removing that registry value then creating it again. Or you could use one of the tools at http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm.

Might also be worth running Help | Detect and Repair.

First off, I want to thank you Sue for your insight and help. I looked the
egistry entry and it is correct. When I copied it in, I just did not copy the
last quotes. I have done the repair option - and it still has the problem. I
will keep plugging away at it and my ultimate solution is to upgrade to
Office 2003.

On the Help | About Microsoft Outlook dialog, what is the Security Mode status?
