Attachment size can't send large attachments

P

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I cannot send large attachments in my emails. I can receive large attachments without problems. Small attachments (under a few Mb) go without problems but anything bigger goes to my outbox for a while and ultimately generates the following error message: HTTP error. The server cannot fulfill the request.

I have read some explanations suggesting this is an ISP issue, but it is not. I have my old Mac which is running Entourage 2008 (12.1.3) and it can send the same attachment via the same account and same ISP with no problem. Obviously the fault is with the new Entourage 13.0.0 which is running on my new Mac. How can I fix this?

My old Mac is running OSX 10.5.6
And new Mac is running 10.5.8

Are you connecting to the same server (same address) with both versions?

Yes, same server, same address via the same LAN. The computers sit side by side on my desk.

I know you reported that you're using Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Do you
have access to Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to test with your account?

The problem could lie with either the Entourage EWS client or with the
Exchange Server EWS protocol. Testing with Mail in Snow Leopard
connected as an Exchange Server 2007 client should help determine which.

Dear Bill,

No I don't have access to Snow Leopard. Anything I can check or do to get this to work with Leopard? Our IT guys have suggested a re-install of Office with the older version of Entourage. Seems like a step back.

Entourage databases are not backwards compatible. You would have to export
data as individual items to revert to a previous version.
I cannot send large attachments in my emails.

Can you give us an example of a size so we could test?

You're the first I've seen to report this, so I have few other ideas to
help narrow down the cause.

Have you tried testing by sending to an internal account (someone within
your organization) and sending to an external account (someone outside
your organization)? If you can send fine to someone inside then you can
conclude that the server is probably the problem.

Hope this helps!

Dear Bill and Diane,

I tried sending various attachments to someone inside my organization. Files up to 3.3 MB (4.5 MB total message) can be sent but attempts to send a 4Mb file went to the outbox for a while and finally got sent to drafts with the usual error message.
