Attachments not showing in Outlook 2007 but they do in OWA

Hello,

I have Outlook 2007 - with all the defaults set. I have all the microsoft
updates applied. I received an e-mail with an PDF attachment - something
I receive all the time but for some reason the pdf is not showing as an
attachment in outlook and I can't see the PDF contents at all. I thought
the attachment just wasn't there as there is no indication that it had an
attachment other than the size of the message. I open the message in OWA -
sure enough the attachment is there. I forward the message in OWA to
myself and I see the attachments in outlook 2007. I can forward the
message that I can't see the attachments in Outlook 2007 to another person
and they can see it but some can't if they are using Outlook 2007.

Everyone can see the attachment if they use OWA. The messages must still
be there in Outlook 2007 otherwise when I forward them, people wouldn't get
them since they can see them in OWA.

Can you save the invisible attachment by selecting the message in question
and pick File > Save Attachments > All.

Thanks - no I can't.

I know the attachment is there because if I forward it to some people they
can see the attachment in outlook and if I open in OWA I can see the
attachment - strangely if I forward the message to myself from OWA I can see
the attachment in the new e-mail forwarded to myself from OWA in Outlook!
It seems some people using OUtlook 2007 can see the attchments in the
original and some can't. A friend who works with MS remoted into my
computer looked over a lot of my outlook settings and compared them to his
outlook 2007 settings and couldn't figure it out either - for the most part
both of us leaving the settings as the default and the ones we noticed I
changed, he set back to his settings and it still wouldn't show.

I understand, this is going back to an old problem where there is a
"content-id" tag attached to the attachment and Outlook suppresses showing
these types of attachments. Hmm... what happens if you set the option to
force everything to show in plain text*. Will the attachment show up then?

* The option is at Tools > Options > Preferences tab > Email Options > Read
all standard mail as plain text.

I should mention this - in Outlook 2007 with the message open - other
actions - save attachment is available - (which it is greyed out on messages
without attachments) but if I select it - it doesn't do anything even though
it is an option.

Where are these attachments coming from? I thought there was an issue with
Exchange and attachments added pragmatically but I can't find it right now.

This may explain why it happens -

They are being sent from an Outlook 2007 client using IMAP to an Exchange
2007 server. They are a forwarded message. Normally the attachments
show. The clients receiving the e-mail (but not able to view the
attachment except using OWA) are running Outlook 2007 attached to a
different Exchange 2007 server. The one I forwarded to a client who could
open it in Outlook was running Outlook 2007 connected to an Exchange 2003
server.
