attachments not viewable in Outlook 2003

I've recently installed Outlook 2003, (running alongside Office 2002), on XP
Pro.

When a friend sends an attachment, (jpeg), it shows up in Outlook 2003 as a
Notepad file and once open only shows the lines of text.

In order to view the image I have to save it elswhere then open some image
software, (Corel Paint for example), and then open the file.

In Outlook 2002 I could just click on the attached image and open it from
within Outlook, is this possible with Outlook 2003?

Yes, and the issue is not with Outlook 2003 but with which application you
have set as the default in Windows to open jpeg pictures with. Use Control
Panel-> Folder Options to change it.

I went to Control panel, Folder Options, Files Types and changed all the
files ending in JPEG to open in Corel, was this correct?

If you want it to open with Corel; sure ;-)
Does it work correctly for you now?

Some picture applications also allow you to modify that from within the
application. If it doesn't work for you, I would check for that option in
Corel or ask in a Corel newsgroup on how to set it the default for jpeg
files.

Yep, done the trick so far.

Corel's fine for the moment until I can get a copy of Photoshop.

Do you intend to modify these images frequently? Photoshop is huge overkill
if you want to simply view the images. Even if you want to edit them,
simpler editors, like IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) might be better
and if you do need a powerful editor (on the order of Photoshop), consider
the Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/).
