Attempting to send when working offline

For some reason, when I'm not hooked up to the network,
for example on a plane, Outlook keeps trying to send and
receive mail while I'm working in my inbox.

I'm using Outlook 2002; any help will be appreciated.

Go to Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Setup-> button Send/Recieve here you can
set the behaviour of Outlook when it is Offline.
