audio fails to playback

There is a recording, the timer works, and there are the marks to the left
of each note, but when i click on one i get an error message, "Onenote
cannot play the recording. see onenote help." Buf there is nothing helpful in
help.

I checked microphone and speaker settings and they seem fine.
