AUDIO FILE

I designed a website using MS Publisher 2003. I included a "background sound"
on one of the pages. When I uploaded my website, the audio will not play on
the www. But, it will play in "my browser" when I tested it.

Any suggestions?

If you inserted the "background sound" via Tools and Web page options, then
its possible that you need to wait for the sound to load (it will be more
instantaneous on your computer), or perhaps you are using a nonsupported
sound file? What is the URL to the page with the sound, and what file format
are you trying to use?

And in the category of "for what its worth", many if not most people find
background sounds or muzac irritating, and leave...run...escape sites with
them. I know that I will leave them ASAP. Perhaps it not working as intended
is a blessing in disguise? Do you want to drive away potentially a large
part of your audience? Just something to think about...

Thanks for the reply. I did use the Tools & Web page option to insert the
"background sound" The sound file I'm using is a mp3 file. (I tried with a
..wav extension, but the file was too large!) The URL to the page with the
sound is a page within my website. And, the "background sound" I'm trying to
load is part of a sermon my husband preached. I want it to play on the page
where we will advertise the CDs, DVDs, Cassettes and Video tapes we have for
sell. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Unfortunately, it is my understanding that Publisher does not support mp3
files as a background sound.

One workaround is to upload the mp3 file to your site, and then link to it
from your web page. You could introduce it, and invite them to download the
file and listen to it, by clicking on the link. I always tell people how big
the file is, which would be important to people with dial-up connections.
The advantage of this approach would be downloading the file would be
optional, and your web page will load much more quickly. People like fast
loading pages...

I know that if you download a pfd file, and have the reader installed, the
file will open automatically in IE. You might want to test to see if a mp3
file opens and plays automatically.
