audio noise and video flicker while running media file in presenta

When I run windows media player through powerpoint I get background noise in
the audio, and the video flickers. If I run the same video in windows media,
no noise or flicker, which leads me to believe that the problem is somehow
connected to powerpoint, not the hardware or cables. I am running office
2003 on a dell laptop with XP. The presentations are shown on a hitachi
projector and tied into a professional sound system.

I suspect the video is using a codec that is not fully compatible with the
MCI player (used in PowerPoint). For a fuller explanation of this have a
