Audio note icon in notebook view not visible

After creating an audio note in notebook view, I don't see the icon in
the left hand margin showing where the audio note was placed unless I
move the mouse over the area where the note should be. It appears, and
then I can play it - but as soon as I move the mouse away, the icon is
hidden again.

Is there a way to have the icons showing the locations of the audio
notes made permanently visible?

No, the audio note icons only display when the mouse is hovered over the
paragraph that has a link associated with it. This is by design to avoid to
much 'display noise' with Notebook Layout View.
