Audio Note icon not appearing

After I record a note in Notebook view, the audio note icon does not
appear to the left of the bullet. It appears while the note is playing,
but there is not a separate marker for each bullet to allow me to cue
to a particular point in the recording associated with a particular
bullet. Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks,

The following was just posted yesterday by someone from Microsoft's Mac
Business Unit:
The audio note icons only display when the mouse is hovered over the paragraph
that has a link associated with it. This is by design to avoid too much
'display noise' with Notebook Layout View.

If you would like to see a change in this feature, post back here to that
effect and also use the Send Feedback link on Word 2004's Help menu to let
MS know.

No, you misunderstand. The icon doesn't appear for me even when I hover
over the paragraph that has the note linked to it!

To add: the pointer also does not change from a left-pointing to a
right-pointing arrow, no matter how far left I move the mouse. (I can,
however, select the whole line by clicking to the left of the text.) I
figure something somewhere is corrupted, but I'm not sure what file(s)
to look at.

Thanks for any help!

Okay, now you're way past my (lack of) expertise with Notebook view :). I
agree that something seems to be corrupt and if you were in any other view
but Notebook, I would expect it to be the Normal template. Somehow I doubt
that Notebook view is based on the Normal template, but I could be wrong.

So the best I can suggest is to try the standard Word troubleshooting
procedures that you'll find at the URL below. I suggest starting with the
Damaged Preferences article and then move on to testing the Normal template,
just in case.

(If using Safari, hit Refresh once or twice; or use another browser for this
site.)

Sorry not to be of much help. Hopefully someone else will have a better
suggestion.
